Rockwall County Gameday – Gridiron Glory Playoff Update

Dallas Christian

On Saturday (12/2/23), the Dallas Christian Chargers went head-to-head with Holy Cross. Holy Cross received the opening kickoff, but after a gain of only 3 yards, they were forced into a three-and-out as usual. On the very next play, the Chargers responded behind a 50-yard run from Jaden Davis

The rest of the quarter saw a defensive slugfest, as no scores and only 56 yards were allowed. Both of the Holy Cross Knights’ drives ended in three-and-outs, as did a Charger drive. The last drive ended when a Knight defender recovered a fumble from Jhayden Crawl, and the score was 7-0 Chargers.

The second quarter saw the offenses begin to heat up. After a long drive from the Knights that ended with a missed field goal, the Chargers answered with a quick drive. After four plays and a gain of 17, Luke Carney threw a 63-yard pass to Will Nettles for his 20th touchdown of the season and a 14-0 lead. The Knights responded with a 21-play 75-yard drive that ended in a 13-yard touchdown from Taylor Flores, and the half ended by a score of 14-7 Chargers.

The second half was more of the same. The Chargers received the opening kickoff, and quickly capitalized on a 9-play 75-yard drive that ended in a 35-yard dime from Luke Carney to Decorias Taylor, for a score of 21-7 Chargers and Taylor’s 15th score of the season.

Another defensive slugfest occurred, as no more scores were allowed. However, 97 yards were gained by both teams. All remaining drives that quarter ended in turnovers on downs.

The very first Knight drive of the fourth quarter ended with a three-and-out after a gain of 30 yards over 11 plays. The Chargers likewise turned it over on downs, and the Knights took advantage on a 10-play 80-yard drive that ended when AJ Williams powered his way through the Charger defense, but with a missed PAT, the lead was 29-13.

During that drive, Knight fans were seen cheering while De’Mijae Lampkins was injured. The Chargers took that personally on the next drive. They marched down 43 yards, powering through the Knights defense. Jaden Davis added his second touchdown of the afternoon for the final score of 28-13. Another Knight turnover and a Charger kneel later, the Chargers became 11-time state champions!

The Charger offense performed extremely well, but fell short of 400 yards. Luke Carney threw 261 yards and 2 touchdowns to the likes of Will Nettles, Corey Taylor, and Jhayden Crawl. Nettles was Carney’s leading receiver with 153 yards and 1 touchdown on just 6 completions.

Jaden Davis led the way on the ground with 116 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 carries. Even with a hurt ankle, Carney still managed 5 yards on 3 carries.

The defense put up what might have been their best performance since Bishop Lynch. Devontay High led the way with 17 tackles. De’Mijae Lampkins also had a big performance with 13 tackles, including 2 for a loss. Other notable contributors include Chris Scott, Kahtori Crawl, and Micah Mata all with 9 tackles each. 1 of Scott’s tackles was for a loss.

Final Score: 28-13 for a Dallas Christian victory!๐Ÿˆ๐ŸŒŸ

Making History

Dallas Christian has officially won their 11th state title in school history, and have surpassed Shiner St. Paul for most titles of all time for TAPPS 11-man football. This is their third state title in a row, and they are only the second team in school history to get a three-peat. Thus far, Dallas Christian is the ONLY 11-man high school football team to claim two three-peats. This may sound like an understatement, but WOW! What a way to end the season!

It has been a pleasure to report on this team’s progress and we cannot wait to see what next season has in store for them. Until then, join us in congratulating these young men on their success and keep that Charger spirit alive!๐Ÿˆ
