Ladies and gentlemen, football fanatics, and proud supporters of Rockwall County high school football, get ready for some gridiron glory as we dive deep into week one rankings for the Jaxon Smith-Njigba Award.

What is the Jaxon Smith-Njigba Award?

In case you are new here, the Jaxon Smith-Njigba Award was created to shine a spotlight on the best and brightest stars of high school football right here in Rockwall County. Chris Pena, founder of Rockwall County Gameday, Jaxon Smith-Njigba from the Seattle Seahawks, and their families have worked diligently to bring this incredible recognition opportunity to life for players from one of the following schools: Rockwall High School, Rockwall-Heath High School, Royse City High School, Dallas Christian School, and Heritage Christian Academy. In addition, our sponsor M&D Real Estate will be presenting this award to the winner at the conclusion of the season.

The winner will have their name forever etched into the prestigious Jaxon Smith-Njigba trophy and will receive a scholarship, courtesy of Jaxon Smith-Njigba himself. In addition, the winner will also receive a secret grand prize that has yet to be revealed!

This award isn’t just about the touchdowns, yardage, or stats. It’s about celebrating the passion, dedication, and heart that these young athletes pour into the game. This award is a testament to the outstanding talent and sportsmanship that our community fosters, and it’s a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of young athletes and football enthusiasts. #1 – Luke Carney (QB)

Luke Carney is a junior at Dallas Christian School  and has already pocketed two state championships as a starting quarterback! With recruiters knocking at his door, Luke Carney’s stats are only the tip of the iceberg!

#2 – Landyn Locke (QB)

Landyn Lock is a junior at Rockwall High School and has already committed to Wisconsin. Locke is a magician on the field, but since he shares his QB duties, his stats put him in the #2 slot. Despite this, his future seems bright!

#3 – William Nettles (WR)

William Nettles, a senior at Dallas Christian, was a 2022 Jaxon Smith-Njigba Award finalist. His speed and electrifying plays set the gridiron ablaze each week. He officially committed to Purdue in July of 2023.

#4 – Ashten Emory (RB)

Ashten Emory is a junior at Rockwall High School and has hands like glue, catching everything in sight. On a team with a star-studded wide receiver roster, his status as the stats leader is impressive!

#5 – Jaden Davis (RB)

Jaden Davis, a junior at Dallas Christian, is on track to shatter his previous records and is showing immense promise.

Triston Gooch (RB)

Triston Gooch is a junior at Rockwall High School and has hands like glue, catching everything in sight. On a team with a star-studded wide receiver roster, his status as the stats leader is impressive! He was ranked #3 in last week’s standings.

Tyreke Cockroft (RB)

Tyreke Cockroft is a junior at Royse City High School and has accumulated 613 Yards Rushing this season. He has already far surpassed his previous stats and we’re looking forward to seeing more from him this year. 

Jace Oliver (QB)

Jace Oliver is a junior at Royse City High School. Thus far, Oliver has accumulated 752 Total Yards over 5 games this season. Jace was ranked #8 in last week’s rankings, but we could see a shift happening soon as the competition escalates!
