Rockwall County was buzzing with excitement last Friday as the Rockwall Yellowjackets and Rockwall-Heath Hawks geared up for the clash of the year, the I-30 Classic. The I-30 Classic isn’t just a game; it’s a clash of communities as each side of town shows up to support their local athletes by sporting their team colors and cheering louder than the other side. This rivalry spans decades, and harbors so much support from the community as each school packs the local food pantry. The atmosphere in Rockwall County is truly inspiring before, during, and after this match up and we are proud to call Rockwall our home!

Rockwall Yellowjackets vs. Rockwall-Heath Hawks
Each set was intense from start to finish as both teams displayed incredible skill and determination to be the winner of the I-30 Classic. The intensity of each volley and the cheers of the crowd cannot even be described, but the scorecard might fill you in on how close this game was. Check it out!

Player Spotlight
ROCKWALL
Junior Halle Jameson contributed 14 kills while Senior Harley Krause contributed 13 kills and Senior Sydney Lafferty contributed 7 kills. Senior Gabi Ashcraft ended the night with 47 assists and 20 digs. Janie Deapen contributed another 5 kills, but also blocked out the Hawks offense with 4 stuff blocks. What a night for these young ladies! Those are truly some impressive stats. Overall, the Rockwall Yellowjacket Volleyball team ended the night with 49 kills, 9 blocks, 92 digs, and 49 assists. Truly an outstanding performance.
ROCKWALL-HEATH
Senior Reagan Ruecker led the team with 13 impressive kills. Junior Reese Ruecker ended the night with 14 digs and Junior Logan Younger led the team with 12 assists. The Hawks started off strong in the first set, but unfortunately were forced into a more defensive game in the remaining sets and fell short of a victory. It was an amazing opportunity for the Hawks defense to show us everything they had. Great job ladies!
What’s Next?
This Tuesday, our Yellowjacket Volleyball Team will have a bye week before hosting Mesquite Horn on Friday. Rockwall-Heath is set to play Mesquite Horn tomorrow (9/26/23) in the RHHS Main Gym. As of now, Mesquite Horn is undefeated so it’s sure to be a great game tomorrow and on Friday for both of our volleyball teams!
